The Club supports a Junior Training Program for Flat-water Racing (Sprints) and Long Distance Racing (Marathon).
The aim of the programs is to have good competition in suitable events at Sprint Regattas and most of the Marathon races during the year and to participate in the State Championships of the two disciplines. The programs and squad also support the various Club Events during the year if the water is suitable.

Junior Development Squad
The Junior Development Squad’ for sprint and marathon paddling is run by Jesse Phillips. Jesse is a five-time national champion (2010-2014) in the men’s kayak doubles (200 m) and an Olympian K2 paddler. He brings a wealth of knowledge and coaching ability to our club. To have the opportunity to be developed by a coach of this standard is a fantastic opportunity.
This squad is for junior paddlers (12-16 years old) ready to refine their racing skills. The club is investing in our young juniors and is subsidising the coaching fee. The cost is $60.00 per month and the squad trains twice a week.
Tuesday 4:15 – 5:15pm
Friday 4:15 – 5:15pm
If you have any questions/queries please contact Jesse 0422 678 055 or firstname.lastname@example.org
USEFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Flatwater Juniors can do a trial period of 3-4 sessions for $20. This is a good way to test if your child is going to like paddling before paying for a club membership.
Junior Members must have a parent or legal guardian that is a member of AKC. By-Law: Membership Subscription, Fees and Charges. After the trial period you can become a club member which is pro rata for new members. New Membership Details
To get started you don’t need to purchase any gear and you can buy equipment one item at a time once you know your child is going to stick to paddling. The Club provide Personal Floatation Device’s (PFD’s) , paddles and suitable craft for learners to get started with their paddling.
Parents are responsible with assisting their child to ‘get ready’ and ‘pack away’ for any coaching session or event.
Our club really values our juniors and family club memberships. Having a large and strong family base at our club is a priority. As much as possible we subsidise Family Membership and Coaching Fees. You will find our coaching fees are a lot less than most other sports.
