Courses run in 4-week blocks, commencing the first Saturday of the month. Saturday morning courses are 8:30am to 10.00am. All ages 16 and up are suitable.

This course is aimed at the complete novice or someone wanting to brush off a few cobwebs, and once completed, should see you with the confidence and knowledge to safely embark on a paddle on the calm waters of the Swan River around Garvey Park, where our club is located.

Correct entry and exit of the craft, holding the paddle, the various forward, reverse and turning strokes are covered in the course. This course will aid in selecting the right craft if you intend to purchase your own craft in the present or distant future.

Ascot Kayak Club supplies all the equipment including kayak, paddle and safety vest. You will need to provide suitable clothing for the weather conditions, water bottle in the hotter months and mosquito repellent is also advisable. A dry change of clothes and a towel for afterwards will prevent a wet car seat on the way home.

Joining the Club

Should non-members like to join the club, during the month of the course, we will reduce the cost of membership by $40.00 (1 October- 31 March) or $20 (1 April – 30 November).

Successfully completing a course will also enable you to, once becoming a member; use one of the fifty odd club craft on the waters around the club. The craft cannot be transported away from the club by vehicles, i.e. they must be paddled from and back to the club and under no circumstances can non-members use the club craft.

To find out more about joining the club please refer to New Membership

Certificate Presentation

On the 4th Saturday of each month we have a ‘graduation breakfast’, for Intro Course participants.

After your final Introductory Course session, participants can relax and enjoy breakfast, get to meet other paddlers and we present you with your certificate.

Many participants will form friendships or meet paddling buddies in these courses, so if you don’t have anyone to share the beautiful waters around Perth and the Swan River, don’t worry, you are bound to meet someone at AKC with similar interests, work or family commitments. You can also join in the Social Paddle (Saturday morning) to continue your progress if you are a club member.

If you have any further questions or queries about the course, please email Kylie White via akcadministration@gmail.com or phone 0430 561 853 during the working week (not weekends)

Look forward to seeing you down at Ascot Kayak Club.
